May 10, 2023 - Brooding, beastly, unresolved with massive power and insane potential. This wine is so raw, concentrated and packed to the brim with density and goodness it's kind of ridiculous. Certainly not a wine you'd ideally want to open now despite it's gorgeous nose, it's bruising but in a really fun way. There is seemingly no end to the depth and length, but in between you get some harshness, overt oak and general wild character. I personally find it super interesting, in a science experiment sort of way. It's aging in glacial fashion but I bet this will be spectacular in a decade or so. Unlike most Napa wines, you can comfortably lay this down for the long term.

I totally agree the potential is there but I have yet to drink one in an ideal window for my palate. Is the first commercial vintage from this vineyard 2006?

Otherwise, little experience with the winery. This is the only LP I bought - possibly for the best, although I do enjoy the bruiser.

5/11/23, 7:43 AM - With a little digging I believe it's 2006. I might have to pick up some of the earlier bottlings. I had 2008 at the cave and remember it being youthful back in 2020.

5/11/23, 9:47 AM - I typical pass on this bottling knowing the price will be less on the secondary market as most don't have the patience or palate for this wine young.

I have two bottles of 2010 in the cellar. I might have to sacrifice one and sample over several days.

5/11/23, 9:56 AM - Yeah, I got it for a bit over $300. Most all Abreu wines are cheaper aftermarket, aside from monumental vintages and scores on Thorevilos or Madrona, although even then, it just touches direct.
