May 14, 2023 - Almost every Kabinett I've ever had has been enjoyable, barring flawed bottles. So it should come as no surprise that this one was as well. I think the issue here is that there is a noticeable stylistic change from my recollections of the 2019 which was my last vintage. That one had some sponti funkiness that is totally absent here. This is a more linear citrusy creature with none of the rounding notes (I had noted pear) of that vintage.

From the MFW notes, the 2019 was picked at 85° Oechsle and this was picked at 79° Oechsle in a vintage that already was more acidic to begin with, and that choice may be the culprit.

Some have noted the acid is too high here. I don't necessarily think that, in the abstract. I had most of it with food and the acid was fine. I think the problem is that the higher acid of the vintage combined with the reduced ripeness at picking makes this come across as a Kabinett from someone other than Andreas Adam; a different balance point. Whether that's good or bad or just something to be aware of is up to each drinker.

I'll gladly drink it if someone serves it, but I won't be seeking out more.
