    June 1, 2023 - Bottled in 2021. 35yrs in cask. Bottle no. 385/500. Open 5 days.

Dark mahogany - the colour of an old well waxed dining table. On the nose, furniture wax, boot polish, old dusty wardrobe and salted caramel fudge. On the palate this is quite thick and viscous with a caramel/crème Brulé sweetness offset by a nice tangy acidic streak which finishes clean but with lingering sweetness. Leaning more towards the Malvasia end of the spectrum this is quite sweet and rich and is everything I wish a tawny port could be.

I sampled this every day from opening day to today (today) and this was by the far the best showing. Clearly a great wine which I daresay it will continue to develop over the coming weeks with exposure to air. However, it is seriously expensive for a (relatively) young wine in such a recent bottling. The cheapest listing in Europe is around Euro 300 while in the UK, the importer (and sole vendor) is listing this at £400 inc tax. At this price I am struggling to find the QPR. There are some seriously good wines out there at half the price and so while I have ticked this off my list of wines to try, it is not a rebuy.
