July 28, 2023 - Don't even look at it. Just keep walking.

A scuffed label BWG discount led to a justification to kill this bottle early. 2018 has shut down and the fruit is hidden behind a wall of puckering tannins. The backdrop of the Grand Tetons and all their glory sure did make for a nice picture to send to Bruce. He always appreciates how well these bottles travel so not a complete loss!

On day two the fruit was showing a bit more but tannins are still formidable and imposing on what will be a 100 point wine one day.

    Hold

7/29/23, 9:00 AM - Thanks for the warning! I've got a few of these coming this fall and it's good to know that these will need to cellar for a while. I wonder if the '19s are more approachable ...

7/29/23, 9:06 AM - If you like them young then 19 will be more approachable. If you have cellared VHR I'd pull 12 & 14 which are amazing right now. 13, 15 & maybe even 17 Hold.

16 is wonderful almost at every approach and will reward patience as well. My favorite VHR!

    08, 09 & 11 are good to go. 10 I'm trying to figure out.

7/29/23, 11:19 AM - Geaux- I had my hand on 16 and pulled 18 instead. I need to check in on that one as well. It’s been a year since I’ve experienced that one as well.
