October 8, 2023 - Mostly 1998s (Washington, DC): Whoa, this was really cool. Intense nose of incense, dried roses, tar, black pepper, all sorts of mossy rocks, fallen leaves – smells like a good fall mushroom foray. The tannins are resolved, the acidity is refreshing, and the wine is subtle, balanced, and focused. Flavors of black cherries and cranberry relished, tossed with complexities of spiced tea, tobacco, violets, mushrooms, some balsamic and black pepper glaze. I guessed Barbaresco.
