Community Tasting Note

  • bottles.and.bites Does not like this wine: flawed

December 31, 2023 - color is nearly orange, golden with red hues. Orange peel, mint, savory. Some how tastes overly heavy in mouth feel, yet still somewhat underrripe or astringent on the fruit. Bubbles felt like they dissipate rather quickly, frothy on the pour and then immediately flat. As a wine, it’s tasty. As a sparkling wine, I’m confused by the color and the lack of bubbles. As an ultramarine I’m fairly disappointed for our New Year’s Eve pop. Maybe popped too early or flawed?

Updated to drop score and mark as flawed based on what I’ve been reading for other 2018s

1/2/24, 6:35 AM - I have no idea what is up with the 2018's.. I hear all the praise, they have all disappointed. Never had anything but the 2018, but got 6 bottles and not impressed at all. The Rose is even worse.

1/2/24, 11:24 PM - The "frothy on the pour and then immediately flat" makes me think that the glassware was not entirely clean, maybe dusty from sitting in a cupboard, or even soap residue from a dishwasher. Regardless, I understand the disappointment!

1/3/24, 11:48 AM - I usually quite enjoy ultramarine, really disappointed with this bottle. Haven’t opened much 18 yet, I hope it’s isolated to off bottles and not the whole vintage.
