January 13, 2024 - The nose has a good helping of blackberry, a little cherry, some cedar and pencil case. A lot of reviews say graphite but for me it’s certainly more remnant of the pencil, rubber and protractor set you had when you were 12. It doesn’t dominate too much however unlike some other Pauillac classroom collages I’ve had.

The palate has prominent underripe green fig with black cherry, tobacco, pencil case and a distinctly herbaceous character. It’s very much dry and in fact borderline bitter, which along with any green notes I attribute to me knowingly infanticiding the bottle. The tannin is grippy and aggressive yet the fantastic structure is clearly evident and I find myself enjoying this very much indeed.

Leather, flint and rose on the finish, like a bouquet bought fresh from the quarry by a miner in chaps.

I’ve had Batailey before but can’t quite remember enjoying it anywhere close to this one. Good vintage was it? I would absolutely love to revisit this in say half a decade’s time, if not a little longer. Great stuff.

1/14/24, 7:21 AM - Yes, but it helps scoring if everyone is using the charts recommended by CT. I don’t see how one could make a difference between a score of 73 and 74 if you use the whole scale. CT guidance is as follows:
CellarTracker uses a 50-100 point scale for rating wines.

    Score Grade Meaning
    98-100 A+ Extraordinary
    94-97 A Outstanding
    90-93 A- Excellent
    86-89 B+ Very Good
    80-85 B Good
    70-79 C Below/Average
    50-69 D Avoid

1/14/24, 8:24 AM - By that logic I’d argue it would make much more sense just to reduce to a 1-10 scale. If you just imagine to yourself my scores are between your 89-100 then we can both live in ignorant bliss.

1/16/24, 12:31 AM - Maybe you can live in ignorant bliss in this way. I can't, and I don't think other users of Cellartracker can. You can use your own scale if you like, when you have your own platform, with readers who know you and your scale. This however, is not that platform. That's why it's recommended to Cellartracker users when they give points to a wine, to use the scale described above. I'd be grateful if you do.

    Downgraded from 85 to 80.
