January 23, 2024 - Dark ruby color with a clear watery edge. The nose is present but somewhat toned down or muted with notes of mature dark red and purple fruits, modest oak, bramble and moist earth with a hint of menthol. The texture on palate is very very soft, on the lighter end of medium-bodied, but most of all I find this to be annoyingly diluted or watery. Though generally soft and well balanced, I personally would prefer a little bit more fruit extraction and density which I believe would make this a much more satisfying wine. The flavor components includes dark red and purple fruits, greenish twigs, matted wet leaves, damp soil, slight tobacco, vanilla oak, meat, and damp soil. Overall, this 12 year-old Coonawarra red blend is a decent and easy drinking wine but missing a few critical things that keeps it from greatness.
