February 25, 2024 - Root Day - Just barely opaque dark crimson core out to a wide lighter crimson edge - very youthful in appearance. On the nose you can immediately smell dark cherry with underpinnings of (for me) pine needles along with a bit of a candied cherry note. On the palate there’s structure and medium plus acidity with bright cherry and light savoury herbs. It’s pretty simple and basic in flavour and texture with a little more weight than a Chianti (not a Classico). The finish is short with the same flavours as on the palate - maybe a bit of spice and floral added in. This is good but not much better than a basic Chianti in my book.
