March 28, 2024 - Flower Day - wine to bottom of bottle neck. Cork sound with wine ingress about 3/4 of the way to the top. Decanted off about a teaspoon of fine sediment. Translucent garnet core out to an orange tinted mahogany edge. Tasted in a Pinot Noir glass. Nose is glorious - fine herbs, woodsy underbrush, red flowers, light black licorice, touch of vanilla and light red fruit. There’s supposed to be (according to knowledgeable critics) a green peppercorn element to it - I suspect that’s my fine herbs that I get. On the palate it’s showing some maturity with a bit of (not overbearing) Volatile Acidity along with a pruney, earthy, very ripe plum flavour. Red fruit, light savoury herbs and some spice are follow ups to the main flavour profile. The long finish is warm with the spice, earthy fruit, and light VA continuing. The tannins are fully resolved and the medium plus acidiy is balanced by the fruit. I expected more tannic structure so was pleasantly surprised by the softness of them. It’s interesting and pretty tasty but not a grape or wine I would pursue in future.
