April 6, 2024 - My first Gonon from St. Joe

First impression is the quality of fruit and balanced palate. A well captured sense of place in the wine making processes and farming. It's easy to see how this has a cult following. I have some 14's inbound so it will be nice to see what these wines do with relative age on them.

Plenty of upside laying these down but no harm pulling one now.

Imho the value play is his Iles Feray…a bit of a different character but I can’t tell you how many bottles I had opened up, served blind, and a surprising amount of people preferred it to the more expensive St. Joe…not to sway your opinion, but worth experimenting if you haven’t tried…easier on the pocketbook as well if you find you like it too!

4/7/24, 8:39 AM - Thanks for the comment J Smallwood, which reminds me I need to update this to clarify this is my first St. Joe from Gonon. I've had the Iles Feray 2016 at Pappas Steakhouse and it was very good value play on the menu. Now, I don't have any in the cellar so I'll seek them out and report back. I appreciate the tip! I'm all about find value in a region that is getting pricey.
