April 11, 2024 - Root Day - Fill to just above shoulder with seepage showing (barely) at the top of the sound cork. Decanted off about a teaspoon of hard sediment grains and returned to the cleaned bottle (double decant). Still an opaque garnet core that extends to a fairly thin crimson rim. Nose is wet clay, some funk, wet leather, dried red fruit and just a hint of dried savoury herbs. On the palate it’s soft and very alive with bright red fruit, light spice, sweet herbs, red flowers and a hint of new leather. Very youthful on the palate. The long finish carries the red florals, spice and red fruit. This is remarkably youthful and so gulpable even at this advanced age. What a treat!
