April 28, 2024 - 3rd of 6 bottles purchased and this one drank very different than the first 2 which had lots of fresh, bright, juicy red cherry flavors while this one had a strong sour cherry palate. Hard to understand the reason when this happens, is it this particular bottle, is this wine going through an awkward phase, is it my palate, or some combination. Anyone else have this kind of experience?

A lot of Brunello, especially from a traditional house like Barbi, goes through a really, really pronounced dumb phase in the late single digits. This isn't just a "tannins aren't quite fully integrated" situation -- it's like the whole wine tastes flat and unexpressive, to the extent that you could think the wine is over the hill. Then it wakes back up and really starts to shine around year 10, or sometimes even later, which is the window it was really built for.

I know that many people (sometimes including me!) are drinking wine much younger these days, and of course we should all like what we like, but 7 or 8 years is a super awkward age for traditional BdM.
