Community Tasting Note

August 18, 2009 - Translucent cherry red color with some smoky bricking at the rim. Aromas of smoke, cherry, black tea, and sous bois. On the palate, this is tart and lean, showing mild cherry and black tea elements. The dominant characteristic is a big hit of drying tannins on the finish, which leads me to believe that this is going to remain too tannic for my tastes until it is a leafy, dusty, old burg, which it may someday be. Some notes of violets emerge with time in the glass. On day two, this was much more open and had more strawberry and cherry fruit as well as a significant integration of the back-end tannin stucture. No overt oxidation had crept in, so this does bode well for further cellaring. Decant if drinking now.

12/23/18, 7:21 AM - Just was reading your note from 9 years ago. Opened a bottle last night and hard to believe its in its perfect drinking window at 20 years of age. Just writing up my post now.
    Happy Holidays and good drinking.
