May 11, 2010 - Initially, this wine purports itself more like a white Rhone blend than a Riesling, almost Viognier or Gros Manseng. The perception of it's truth is there, just muted. Anyhow, there is a round nose of white flowers and grass (again, a hint of Sauvignon Blanc) with some saline characteristics. This is a big acid-bomb on the mouth, but the Spatlese trocken build adds some residual sweetness akin to a Kabinett on the back and sides. Fruity, tasty, a good food pairing, but this wine does not excite me. Compared to other 08's I have had, and the task of making a Spat-trock, this is in der mitte.
