May 14, 2010 - Popped and poured. Medium-plus garnet hue. Pronounced aromas of fresh berries, black cherry, leather, fresh herbs, and a touch of smoke. With air, the aromas grow in complexity and depth. Medium-plus body. On the palate, the fruit is striking...ever present, pure, and focused but never forceful, with flavors of dark fruits, black currant, mocha, anise, minerals, and more fresh herbs (basil & mint?). Tannins are surprisingly somewhat chalky and a bit astringent but compliment the fruit perfectly on the lengthy finish. Truly a wine that is both mentally and hedonistically fulfilling, each successive sip more enjoyable than the last. Tannic structure certainly suggests further aging, perhaps 10+ years even...but really, this is in the perfect midlife spot right now.
Well-balanced, regal and classy - what more could one hope to find in Napa Cabernet? Not much!
