February 25, 2011 - Got this bottle from the winery's wine club for $30.40 and drank with pan-grilled salmon steaks spiced with freshly-cracked sea salt & black pepper and Herbs de Provence.
The bouquet is wonderful red fruit, oak, and earth. This is a darker-than-usual Santa Barbara County Pinot; I'm guessing the grapes were sourced from the Santa Maria area.
This is a wondrful, herbacious Central Calif Pinot. In addition to the usual raspberry and cherry fruits, there's a generous amount of oak to go with the herbs/spices and terrior. Like a good Santa Maria Pinot (e.g. Byron), this is a rich, creamy, delicious Pinot Noir. The depth-of-flavors goes on for days and the finish is smooth and lingering.
If you enjoy rich, complex Central Coast California Pinots, this bottle is difficult to beat. The purity of fruit, the delicious herbs/spices, and the savory oakiness/earthiness all add-up to a fantastic Cali Pinot. As usual, very well done Fess Parker (R.I.P.)!!
