June 29, 2011 - Opened on a whim to celebrate a friend's new job. PnP'd @ 55 degrees. Dark, but not opaque, color. The nose, apart from a bit of musty cedar, is unremarkable. Light in mouthfeel, despite fairly thick legs. Plenty of acidity throughout, but on the back the tannins are subdued and the finish is short. Palate comes across initially as something like a gently mulled cherry cider...with an appreciable hole in the middle. With air & time the wine picks up a little weight, the hole in the middle subsides, but a lack of Zin-spiciness persists. Our 3rd Turley from `05. All have been similar in style. And quite frankly, I don't get the hype. Is it good? Sure. Is it Forty Bucks worth of good? Hell No. [15% abv.; $40.00].
