August 20, 2011 - Nose: On the nose, I get heavy smoke... Maybe some light vanilla underneath, but really almost to the point of tasting it I smell smoke and vanilla, almost like I'm camping and the fire is going and I'm smelling french vanilla coffee...
Palate: Right away, like a punch in the nose I get black fruit. Lots and lots of blackberry and mocha... and oak. lots of oak, but not overbearing. It doesn't last long but its not to be ignored... If that was it for the wine it would be special, but there is more...The midpalate to me is all eucalyptus. It's a nice transition from fruit to a minerals and eucalyptus plant, and I can really really identify with it and like it. Still tasting oak and some maybe its cassis (not sure what exactly that would taste like). Really nice. The finish. Yeah, everyone who says a minute long finish on this wine is lying. It's a minute 30 if not two minutes long... I don't want to take another sip because I can still taste and enjoy the prior.
The tannins are there, but they are just adding to the complexity and taste of this wine. I had no idea, but tomorrow I am out in force looking for more of this wine, now my favorite ever... If you haven't had this beast, or if your new and want to experience wine at its finest, look no farther...
