August 31, 2011 - Allowed to breath for about an hour before trying to a full glass. This is a respectable wine at this price point; dark ruby color with notes of dark fruits, a touch of spiciness, and perhaps even some tobacco and plum. As others have said below, the palate is concentrated with dark berry fruits and a spicy character; however, the finish still has quite a bite to it. Even after several hours the tannins were a bit much for my liking. On the contrary though, it did pair well with a bold beef stew that helped mellow out some of the mouth feel (there was a glass of it in the stew! yum). I think this wine has many more years left and I probably won't even open another bottle for a year or two.
