September 11, 2011 - A bit it seems perhaps its prime, the 89 Mayacamas still drank well, showcasing balance and finesse, along with charm. On the nose are somewhat faint, though very pleasant aromas of and tobacco, though this perhaps doesn't have the perfume one would hope given the age --that is to say for a wine of this level, given the less memorable vintage. That said, the pleasant fruit carries over into the palate with more present flavors of blackcurrants, black tea and bell peppers. Though slightly vegetal, these flavors aren't overpowering and instead give a bit of savoriness to the wine. Furthermore, the wine has loads of charm, balance and finesse, and I would pair it with game meats or steak --I only had a small taste with a bit of bread and cheese. Drink now.
