December 31, 2011 - The old widow does it again - still one of my favorite every-day champagnes. And by that I mean the one that I prefer for any kind of celebration. New Year's Eve is suddenly as good an occasion as any to open a bottle of Veuve Clicquot. A pale golden yellow color with tiny streams of effervescent bubbles produces a strong mousse. Green apple and hints of peach on the nose, then a bold but well-balanced palate with peach, ripe green apples, lemon, minerals, and some remembrance of rose petal. Smooth, but somewhat clipped finish with a touch of honey. Happy New Year!
