April 30, 2012 - Pale gold and slightly developed. An evocative nose with tropical notes of coconut, melon and lemon rind, slightly honeyed with a faint oxidative streak. Round and a bit oily on the midpalate, finishing with a refreshing citric tang and pronounced salinity balanced against delicate notes of almond and a lingering impression of marzipan-like sweetness. The American oak is somewhat less pronounced than I recall in prior vintages, and very well integrated.

The Lopez cuvees are generally quite consistent from vintage-to-vintage due to their blending regimen, and this Gravonia strikes me as very good, if not quite as amazing as the wonderful '01.
