Community Tasting Note

May 27, 2012 - Had the wine with rare, grilled rib eye steak, corn on the cob and spinach salad. I chose this wine because I expected big things (90+) to go along with my birthday steak and was a bit disappointed. The wine was a nice bluish purple, plum color. Nose was nice with mixed notes of chocolate and oak underlying the basic California cab aromas. Taste was sweeter than I expected with lots of fruit but no layers of the fruit flavors. There was a lot of chocolate; the oak was mild and the tannin was soft and smooth. Finish was nice but as we drank more there was little bit of green astringent bite that came out. A good cab, no doubt, but not worth the $50+ that my friend who gave it to me had to pay; I could have bought several different bottles of equally well made and equal or better quality cabs for 1/3 the price.
