June 7, 2012 - Lots of still bubbles in this pale wine. Restrained, really fresh nose of citrus, quinine (perhaps the reason why this had worked well as a substitute for jenever?) and minerals. Rich and mouthfilling with strong acidity. Really really high concentration with quite ripe fruit. avp actually summarized the flavor profile nicely, although instead of almond I find this to be quite leesy. The finish is long, but the 13 % alcohol feels a bit there. This is easily one of the more concentrated dry Rieslings I've had. While not nearly as austere/brutal as Mosel trockens can be at their worst, I don't think this is in a very good place at the moment. I was hesitant about popping this and rightfully so: this could really use several years sideways. There is a lot of stuffing, high quality stuffing, but the wine is not in a perfect harmony. After a sip I don't feel like I want to have another one very quickly, which pretty much sums it up. I love the label, though.
