June 30, 2012 - I've tasted this wine on a few occasions now and only on once did it really shine. Though, still a young wine so I must keep that in mind. This is a hillside planting on extremely rocky soil, which lends a hand to structure and minerality. I am sure a few years on this wine will make it blossom. The nose is a flurry of porcini dust with bits of pine and earth. You can really get a sense of the minerality here, where you can taste it in spades, earthy notes, fresh acidity, red berries are present, like a splash of strawberry-cran (sounds like I'm pitching something new to Ocean Spray :) and some dry lemon peel. Finish is it a tad short, here is where you get a sense of the firm tannins. Though the Sarrazin 'Champs Lalot' bottling has won my heart with beautiful elegance, the 'Sous la Roche' is like it's bodyguard....nice wine
