July 22, 2012 - Interesting comparison drinking this with the 07 Beaucastel. And to be sure, at least today, this is showing a lot of complexity right out of the gate. At no point this did this feel like a runaway ripe wine, Parkerized, too international etc. or whatever negative 07 CdP you want to throw around. No, this tasted clearly like a classic Pegau, just on a much larger scale. A touch of brett on the nose (but not as much on the palate) actually worked well within the other aromatics such as roasted plum, lavender, and a touch of pine needles. Definitely a full palate impact, wow, this is just loaded with classic CdP goodies (or at least classic to me) of dark strawberry fruit that is very clean and transparent in the mouth. Again, this is already multifaceted and complex, blood, iron, Garrigue all in abundance and in just the right proportions. The back half shows some pretty serious tannins but by no means a distraction. This has scary good potential.
