August 20, 2012 - Agree with note from df1962. Vinturi-aerate to decanter, let sit perhaps an hour. Color darker than expected for Chianti, with lots of dark red and purple hues approaching opaque at center. Bouquet of black licorice sitting atop a mix of black and sour cherries, plus some plums, dry earth, and coffee. Many of the same flavors as aromas on the palate, with tart and sweet cherries and dark plums twisting in and out of earth and coffee tones. Some dry earth together with moderately chewy tannins wave a food flag, and so went nicely with charcoal fired burgers. Nicely balanced. At the time of the summer sale, Ian Dorin called this one of his favorite Italian reds under 20 at Wine Library. This really took me back to some of the lovely local Chianti's we drank in Florence in early May.
