September 30, 2012 - Tonight I opened one of my oldest wines, 1983 Château Olivier Graves Pessac-Léognan. Color is fine, a mite coppered. What I am more concerned about is the cork which split about 3/4 out of the bottle and slipped down into the wine slit necessitated a decant... Something that a 30 year wine should not be subjected to. Funk is blowing off fast, probably due to the decant. A bit sour at first but a remarkably fine finish. Lets see how it opens as the evening progresses and then tomorrow.
7:19... Second glass is drinking like a bear! The sourness has disappeared and the bouquet has started to really develop. The earthiness of Bordeaux is claiming its right and a bit of medicinal aroma is just skirting around the edges. Was worried about the decant but seems to be forgiving. More to follow.
Day 2 -- not holding the depth that it showed last night. Too much to hope for.3,235 views
