December 15, 2012 - nose - nutty, sour berries, slight acetone nose
mouth - sweet and sour berries tickle the tongue on the attack, with richness of concentration and good minerality noted on the midpalate. This wine has developed some interesting secondary characteristics including coconut, orange peel, and burnt sugar, while preserving a juicy fruit core of cherries and other lighter red fruits. It has a spunky acidic kick which is nicely balanced by moderate dry tannins on the finish. It is a great example of the complexity that Rioja can attain. Not necessarily for fruit bomb lover, this displays elegance over sheer power, though i dont hesitate to restate that the concentration of flavor is noteworthy. It has transcended being merely grape juice. The more i nurse this, the more it grows on me. Highly recommended, esp at the price.
