Community Tasting Note

April 3, 2012 - Tasted at Carlton Winemakers Studio: I understand that the labels on these wines run to $15 each, which puts a dent in the profit margin; but who that really cares about wine cares about making money? It is a blend of six wines (according to our guide): bright ruby red, barnyard, earthy, greenish notes, good fruit, some stemminess (I seem at this point to having a discussion with our host about oxidation that didn't quite make sense). A decent wine that would not have been my first choice from our visit.

9/5/13, 1:20 PM - Dulcie and Aylwin, Thank you for visiting The Carlton Winemakers Studio and tasting Retour. I just wanted to share a quick reply that the labels are nowhere near $15 each. I'm not sure who shared that with you. The cost of Retour goes into the exceptional fruit sources, winemaking, high grade barrels, etc. In fact, the cork is more costly than the label. Should you visit the Willamette Valley in the future, please be sure to contact me to arrange a private tasting. Thank you! Lindsay Woodard, Proprietor, Retour

9/5/13, 8:16 PM - Lindsay: I guess it goes to show one should not believe everything people tell you. I think the $15 label thing came up in a conversation with another wine maker about Retour somewhere else. Apologies if this is in fact inaccurate - though I am happy that you value a good cork. I do recall a fairly intense discussion with the host at Carlton Studios about the oxidation/stemmy quality (the latter I ascribed). I do recall it was a nice bottle - and I would love to take you up on the offer on our next visit.
