December 28, 2012 - Was taking this to a steak restaurant for a double date, my half of which was a blind date. I had been saving it to drink with good friends, the other half of the double date. I opened and decanted for 30 minutes. Returned back to bottle.
Dark Garnet color
High alcohol coming from decanter. Some dark cherry, licorice, vanilla and chocolate aromas, once past the alcohol.
Love the glass stopper, although I thought it would have been a little longer. Took to steak house, payed small corking fee and started with a calamari dish which really enhanced the wine.
I had a rare rib-eye which went very well with this wine. Blackberry, leather, a little tobacco and amazingly some Belgian chocolate, over roasted coffee and long finish with a french aok appeal.
Overall everyone really enjoyed the wine. I chose this wine because I thought I would be good for both more and less sophisticated tastes and please those who like both dry and slightly sweet wine. I was right on the money (surprise since I know so little.) I plan to buy more of this if it's offered again, despite it's high price.
I suspect this wine will continue to improve and become more complex with another couple of years of cellaring. That's where my two other bottles will remain for now.1 person found this helpful 6,330 views
