February 22, 2013 - Was keen to try another of my small 2009s after the impressive Fieuzal earlier this week. Poured into decanter, out of balance initially, takes about 30 min to settle down a bit. Dark garnet / purple. Sous bois, cafe au lait, and particularly serious oak that is barely covered by the generous fruit. Medium tannins. Short to medium finish. Unlike some of the other 09ers I have had, which are effortlessly a pleasure to drink at this young age, the Haut Bergey is in a struggle to find the balance between big fruit, plenty of oak and serious tannins. Wait and see who has the upper hand in a few years. 91+
