February 24, 2013 - THis first release from Gros Ventre was a joy for me to discover. From the color (dark, but with excellent clarity), you expect that this is a highly extracted expression of Pinot Noir. The nose, however, is floral and plums with only some underlying hints of asian spice. On the palate, the influence of oak is apparent immediately from the weight and texture...and while this is clearly Pinot Noir, there is more of the red and blue fruits that you might expect from the appearance. Tannins are smooth. A more aggressive Pinot Noir than some might desire, but a well made and delicious wine that invites you to take sip after sip.
