March 2, 2013 - Color deep red verging on purple, very youthful still. On the nose, black cherry, red bell pepper, slightest hint of sundried tomato, peat and cassis. The palate is ripe but not overbearing, much more refined and composed than the youthful and somewhat rustic nose would suggest. Finishes with plush tannins. The overall impression is round and ripe - far more so than one typically expects from Loire Valley cabernet franc, but this being the dawning of the age of global warming, get used to it. I think the peak will be five years or so from now, at which point one would hope for more complexity, but at present the wine is poised, balanced and very enjoyable for its primary, true to type cabernet franc fruit.
