May 18, 2013 - Birthday dinner gathering with 2003 wines (Hong Kong): This wine is simply beautiful. Great profile, dark ruby with no ageing sign at all, long legs. Bouquet is seductive and complex, layers of dark/red fruits, cassis, earth, stone and cigar. Rich, dense, concentrated mouth feel with juicy fruits, licorice, minerals and hint of oak. Jeff Leve once said you can drink or eat it, if you try a bottle of this, you'd know why. Delicious tannins, round, subtle, complimented by a long long finish filled with jam and tobacco leaf. The best is still to come for the 2003 Montrose. Stunning!

5/21/13, 11:36 PM - Great TN. I have only 2-3 bots of this and this is motivating me to get a few more, and possibly some other 2003 medocs as well. Based on this and other TNs on CT, they are certainly living up to the high expectations surrounding their release -- and starting to offer enjoyable drinking! So while they aren't exactly cheap, but I'd much rather be buying 2003s today than the 2009s...

5/22/13, 3:13 AM - Thanks ilee. Personally I really like the 2003 vintage medocs in general, though there's some variation on quality. Montrose and Cos are impeccable, Poyferre, Barton and Pontet Canet are great performers. Value for money wise, from what I've tried, Malescot and Branaire Ducru are nice. 2009 will be outstanding, but won't be ready for a long while haha, so let's enjoy the 2003s and 2004s while waiting.

5/31/13, 8:51 AM - Cool. we had a badish expirience on a 2003 horizontal recently (https://www.cellartracker.com/event.asp?iEvent=21222&searchId=E5028897&UISource=list) so hoping our MMontrose will reward us at least. Did u decant? it seems that it is better we wait before we open these? have you tried LLC 03 by chance?
    thanks Papies.

6/1/13, 10:15 PM - Hi Papies. Thanks for the note. 2003 is quite tricky, and many times showing from bottle to bottle can vary largely (i.e. Calon Segur, Pichon Lalande). But no doubt, some top wines from Medoc are simply delicious. This Montrose was the 1st bottle from the case, wanted to try it for a long time, and it didn't disappoint, I'm betting it will reward us more down the road. Heard a news that Parker will be re-rate this wine later this year, let's see how it turns out =) I haven't tried LLC personally, if you have, please advise. Thanks
