June 8, 2013 - Dark garnet color with a 1/8" opaque rim; wine was fragrant on opening, but a little bit flat. We decanted and let sit for an hour. Upon return the Newton popped with bouquet. Subtle earthy/vegetative notes mixed with sweet and spicy licorice, plum, leather, graphite, and crushed dark berries. Very sparse slow thin legs. In the mouth all is very well balanced; we paired with a simple burger and it was excellent both during and after dinner. Finish leaves a earthy, fruity, napa flavor in your mouth for easily one minute (I timed it). Definitely tastes and smells old, but I find it magnificent that it has retained this much fruit. I'd call this a fabulous wine that still has more bottle life to it (if your cork holds.... Mine had about 1/16" until soaked thru); however, I think you should probably drink it within the next 2-3 years. Excellent wine.
