July 6, 2013 - Decanted 2 hours. Beautiful nose of dark milk chocolate, roasted game, roasted plum, cracked black pepper, and charcoal, with softer vanilla bean and bacon notes. The palate is still youthful but definitely within its window. Notes from the nose carry over to the palate, medium-bodied, quite silky—particularly on the attack—with black cherry and plum, some floral sweetness to the fruit, more pepper, spice, and crushed rock. Firm acidity in late palate picks up rustic, complementary tannins on the finish. Drinkable and very enjoyable now, but I'd suggest holding for another 2-3 years.
