July 22, 2013 - Smells like there is some kind of scrumptious holiday fruitcake baking in the oven as I'm pouring this into the decanter -- such sweet, enticing aromatics that I wonder if the wine will end up packed with jammy sur-maturité, but in fact it turns out to have all its coloring inside the lines. In fact, while I often find Poyferré deep-pitched and black-fruited, this is red in complexion from beginning to end, starting with those red-currant fruitcake aromatics but eventually shedding the immediate sweetness and showing more fresh berry flavors with air although with a reduced, saucy intensity. The fruit is saturating on the palate and you only occasionally notice that the tannins still have some underlying grit, but it still comes across on a fairly slender, feminine-proportioned frame. I don't notice any remnants of the oak anymore, not even a light whiff of cedar, but there is an iron-like earthiness running through the fruit that shows that this is about more than just scrumptiousness.

9/21/13, 7:09 AM - Darn Keith, that is a good note. I have really disliked some modern LP and already auctioned off some younger bottles. I don't know why I didn't sell the 2000 earlier - I bought them as futures @$50- but they are in my current "to auction" box as I write this. Your note is compelling me to pull one out of the "to go" box and see if my earlier hesitation maybe will pay off.
