August 3, 2013 - Angela's Belated Birthday Dinner (Crown Wine Cellars, 18 Deep Water Bay Drive, Shouson Hill, Hong Kong): This is the "Collection Privee de la Famille Drouhin" release from last year when the Drouhin family tasted all their library wines and released their favourites from back vintages. Briefly decanted. Deep but bright and fresh-looking yellow-gold colour. This has a quiet but purposeful nose of lime leaves and rounded butterscotch boiled sweets. Palate is oh so soft and delicate.....so light but with tons of power....melted butter and molten gunflint..... so molten and rounded. Calm and understated length and resonance that is long and very sophisticated. So incredibly understated, even with its acidic backbone. Absolutely brilliant when paired with lightly grilled fresh scallops, bacon, marmalade and salmon eggs. It evolves with time in the glass into a perfectly rounded pebble.....absolutely integrated and fully-formed. Fantastic.
