Dark, restrained fruit, just the beginnings of some earth, and plenty of structure to age - but the tannins aren't as noticable as I remember form the '96 and '98 versions of this wine. Seems it will be more balanced, and a better wine for me, than those two - but still needs a few years to open up. A-
