September 21, 2013 - Infanticide? Opened this perhaps too early. Colour was deep purple, holding lots of promise for what is usually a very opulent, rich fruity vintage. None of that here unfortunately. Nose fairly muted with hints of oak and some fruit, with a very austre taste on the palate. Finish was similarly austere, medium length but drying. Sense a higher proportion of merlot, tannins very rough and drying. Tough to say where this will be ten years down the road but the lack of fruit is quite a problem for me. Second day, this was a lot more palatable, although still lacking bouquet and fruit, perhaps I will try this in 10 years.

Day 3: The wine has finally opened up! I've changed my mind about this, good balance of fruit and tannin, long finish with mouth-pluckering tannins which dictate that this should not be opened for another ten years minimum. Still lacking on the nose though, oak doesn't appear to be well integrated yet.
