May 12, 2007 - Rack of lamb dinner with my wife, along with my boss & his wife. This wine was one of three that we enjoyed that night - the other two being the 2003 Mitolo G.A.M. and the 2002 E & E Black Pepper - and the Greenock Creek was the unanimous WOTN. Hard to imagine anything a heckuva lot better that the '02 Black Pepper (one of my faves) but this one outshined even that one (95 points) and the always-enjoyable G.A.M. (93 points).

All wines decanted for 2+ hours. While, in my opinion, the Mitolo showed the most obvious volume of fruit on nose and palate, the Greenock Creek had a substantial amount of fruit as well and (if this makes any sense) a greater variety of it... I mean, I'll be damned if I didn't smell and taste some apricot in there, a taste I've not experienced in any other wine. Maybe it was a subconscious thing, as the name of the wine might lead one to think of apricot being in there, but we all agreed it was definitely there - along with a touch of maple syrup, as well as oak, chocolate, and slate. Those, along with the black fruits in this complex, yet perfectly balanced wine, made for an absolute delightful experience and one that was perfectly paired with the lamb. The finish of the Greenock Creek Apricot Block was equal to, or even longer than, the Black Pepper, which I'd have had a hard time believing prior to drinking this particular wine.

Hard to imagine this spectacular drop is in its infancy but it'll be interesting to see how it evolves in a few more years... that's if I can maintain some discipline and not open my remaining bottles!
