October 7, 2013 - Absolutely beautiful bottle of wine. Probably entering the peak level of maturity. Even in this middle of the road vintage, this Brunello really shows it's pedigree. Full bouquet of berries and stone and dried fruit, that carries through the middle and ends in a long finish, all the while presenting your palate with different nuances of raspberries, plums, blackberries, figs....well you get it. The 2005 Castelgiocondo is a wonderful opportunity to taste one of the great Brunello winery offerings at an affordable price and get why Brunello is at the top of the Italian wine pantheon.

10/7/13, 8:03 AM - I think that 2005 is a very under-rated vintage for Brunello. Early on, these wines were big, tannic brutes, but they have softened up beautifully - and much more quickly than expected - with lots of fruit still present. I'll be drinking the rest of mine soon. Cheers! :D
