June 11, 2007 - When I heard others describe this is a finesse wine I mistakenly believed that this wasn’t going to be a clearly Napa wine. Upon first smell and first taste I immediately realized I was mistaken in interpreting finesse in that manner. Make no mistake about it, this is clearly a California wine, but I clearly understand what people mean by finesse especially when compared to many of my other favorite California wines. On the nose there was a very creamy cherry smell intermixed with oak. On the palate I got dark cherries, light pepper and cassis. Although clearly tannic and youthful, the wine is definitely well-balanced and full of finesse as everyone else has said. Due to the clear youthful nature of the wine I wouldn’t say I committed infanticide and am glad I tried a bottle, but I won’t be touching either of my two remaining bottles for at least 2 if not 3 years.
