February 3, 2014 - Pop and pour with friends. Dark maroon color. Full legs. 14.2% a.b.v., but it wears it well, not a lot of heat or imbalance. Gave it about 20 minutes to open up. The initial nose was a little subdued showing mostly sour cherries and a little strawberries. At first the palate mostly shows soft, smooth ripe fruit, but as it opens a really nice tannic spine starts to appear and gives the wine a nice balance and focus - not a lot of acidity but the fruit isn't overly flabby. There's good energy and presence here, but not a lot of complexity (but hey, it's a entry-level bottle). Clean and fresh and nice structure for mid-term aging if you'd like. We had a plate with two different terrines and some assorted cheeses and it was a nice companion. Nice bottle.
