February 11, 2014 - Medium ruby, tawny tint. Nose is a bit port-like, with sweet blackberry aromas (think of a dish of ripe berries in the sun), spirits, a hint of something medicinal (menthol?), freshly mowed grass. Flavorful, but on the palate comes off as a tiny bit overoaked. But the fruit isn't as riich and ripe as the nose leads you to expect: the wine is actually medium bodied and flavorful, with good acidity, some tannic spine, good long mineral-inflected finish. A hint of surmaturite here. Fully mature and starting to decline. A bottle just one year ago was far better; this one seems a little stewed and a little porty, and is certainly not a 96pt wine (my score from 2012).
