March 14, 2014 - The 1988 Berberana Rioja Gran Reserva is medium (-) garnet brick in colour with a nose of red bricks, dried cranberries, dates and dried soil.

The entry on the palate is still a little fresh with light cranberries alongside red dates and rosewood. Tannins have resolved and is very fine now. There's also a gentle refined rustiness to the wine. There's a noticeable mid-palate sweetness The wine ends on a medium (-) finish with sweet rosewood. The acid is surprising still alive and overall every factor of the wine is still pretty balanced. Pleasant, but perhaps the drive is a little tired given its age.
