    April 10, 2014 - Black cherry color.
On the nose: Raspberries, cherries, a little vanilla custard/creme brûlée with orange rind in the background.
Dark fruits (blackberries, ripe blueberries) dominate the impression on the palate followed by italian coffee (with the requisite lemon twist) and tree bark with a hint of bitter chocolate.
This wine corrects any generalization that Barbera D'Alba is a light wine or that it does not age well. Very nice mouth feel and great balance. Nice layering of sweet and and bitter. Outstanding value and has many years left.
Note: after making the above notes I dug into a grilled bone-in ribeye. With the aid of fat the initial sweetness and mid-palate orange rind bitterness were amplified - great interplay.
