May 1, 2014 - On the positive side this wine is very pretty in the glass, showing as a slightly translucent, but deep ruby red . This drinks with a very full mouth feel, and a lingering finish. The lingering finish is not necessarily a positive trait however, as the dominate fruit is that of stewed prune. This is not a fruit profile I desire. The aroma is strong with VA, and this did not 'blow off' with time as I would have hoped.
There is some complexity here, but it is overwhelmed by undesirable traits. Worse, this wine did not improve on day two. I have 3 bottles left, I will keep an open mind as time passes and these bottles have the chance to evolve.
(edit) On day three I had the last two glasses of this bottle. To be fair I have to note the VA seemed to have quieted, and the stewed fruit presence slipped into the background. This is a better wine on day three over what I had found on day one and two. My next bottle I will give a fair decanting for an hour or two to see if this helps. My other two bottles I will hold for a time and see how they fare with age.
